BrainReactions Idea Generator Quilen Blackwell receives the Palmer Award

We are proud to announce that Quilen Blackwell, one of our favorite Idea Generators, was awarded the Palmer Award during the summer of 2005. The Palmer Award is a national award given to two past LeaderShape participants who show outstanding leadership and exemplary work towards their visions.

Quilen Blackwell

Quilen Blackwell is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in history and is in the honors program. Blackwell is a staunch leader on the UW campus due to his work with People Opposing Prejudice (POP). POP is an organization that he founded in the spring of 2004 and has prospered on campus in its inarguaral year. The organization seeks to break down racial barriers through relationship building and also seeks to connect college students with the larger community of Madison.

The organization has received several awards although it is still in its infancy. In the fall of 2004, POP was awarded the Innovation Award and Blackwell was awarded the Excellence in Student Leadership Award from the UW. In the spring of 2005 POP was awarded with the Outstanding Contribution to Campus Award from the UW for the paramount impact the organization had on the campus community.

Blackwell continues to conduct his work with POP as well as his work for BrainReactions. He finds himself “extremely fortunate and excited to be blessed with two great opportunities” as a twenty year old college student. He sees both his work with POP and BrainReactions as ways to serve the larger community because he has a lifetime goal of helping as many people as he can in the time allotted to him.
